Zonta International

A global organisation of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide by improving the legal, political, educational, health and professional status of women at the global and local levels through service and advocacy.  With the generosity and collective action of Zontians and friends around the world, Zonta International has supported projects in 46 countries, provided scholarships and awards to women around the globe, and been a powerful advocate for change in our local and international communities, thereby transforming the wolrd and women's place in it.

Zonta was founded 93 years ago in 1919. Today with more than 33,000 members belonging to more than 1,200 Zonta Clubs in 68 Countries and geographic areas, Zontians all over the world volunteer their time, talents and support to local and international service projects as well as scholarship programmes aimed at fulfilling Zonta's mission and objectives.

Zonta's International Service Programme continues to focus on helping women in developing countries improve their legal, political, economic, educational and health positions.  Through funding from the Zonta International Foundation, the Programme has provided training, education health, sanitation, agricultural and micro-credit assistance to women, primarily through projects implemented by the agencies of the United Nations and other recognised non governmental organisations.

There are six key platforms in which Zonta seeks to advance the status of women by improving the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women at the global and local levels through service and advocacy. They are:


70% of the 1.3 billion poor are women.  Zonta International is committed to expanding women's access to skills training and income-generating activities that lead to sustainable livelihoods and economic independence.


to overcome gender barriers to careers in traditionally male dominated occupations through the Amelia Earhart Fellowships and Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships.

Health Care

with a specific focus on programmes reducing the risk of HIV/AIDS, reducing female mortality during pregnancy or childbirth, reduction of Female Genital Circumcision, Maternal and Neonatal Tetanu and Obstetric Fistula.

Youth Development

which encourages young women to participate in service and leadership in community programmes to improve the professional status of future generations of women. Zonta's Z Club and Golden Z Club programme helps high school, college and university students develop leadership skills, explore career options and participate in local and international commnity service projects.

Legal and Political

Zonta International works closely with the United Nations and its Member States to influence local and international laws and attitudes that affect women's lives and to address issues of gender inequality.

Violence against Women

The human rights of women and girls are an inalienable, integral and indivisible part of universal human rights.  Zonta works in cooperation with the United Nations, its agencies and other NGOs to asist victims and potential victims of violence and human trafficing around the globe.
